The Legend
“Long, long ago, there were ten suns in the sky. The suns burnt all the plants and people were dying on Earth, until one day excellent archer Hou Yi shoot down nine of the suns. The Western Queen Mother gave Hou Yi a bottle of elixir that could make one person immortal. Although Hou Yi did want to become immortal, he wanted to stay with his wife Chang'e more. Therefore, he just kept it at home.
Pang Meng, one of his students, tried to seize the elixir when Hou Yi wasn't at home. Faced with greedy Pang Meng, his wife decided to drink the elixir. It made her fly to the moon where she would stay forever.
To remember her and pray to her, Hou Yi and others started to worship the moon with many offerings.”
傳說故事
「很久很久以前，天上有十個太陽。他們使地球上所有的植物和人類都死掉了。直到某天，一位英勇的弓箭手----后羿出現了！他把九個太陽都射下來了。為了感謝他，王母娘娘給了他一瓶靈藥，能讓他長生不死。雖然后羿也想長生不死，但他更想和他的妻子---嫦娥待在一起。因此，他只把靈藥放在家，而沒有吃它。
蓬蒙，后羿的其中一名學生，想趁后羿不在家時偷走靈藥。面對貪婪的蓬蒙，嫦娥當機立斷吞下靈藥。突然，她身體變得輕盈，向月亮飛去。至此以後，她就永遠留在了月球上。
為了紀念嫦娥，后羿和人們便會以許多供品來祭拜月亮。」
La légende
« Il y a très très longtemps, il y avait dix soleils dans le ciel. Les soleils brûlaient toutes les plantes et les gens mouraient sur la Terre, jusqu’au jour où l’archer Hou Yi a fait tomber neuf des dix soleils. Pour le récompenser, la Reine mère de l’Ouest a donné à Hou Yi une potion qui pouvait le rendre immortel. Même si Hou Yi voulait devenir immortel, il voulait rester avec sa femme, Chang. Il a donc gardé la potion à la maison.
Pang Meng, une des étudiantes de Hou Yi, a essayé de voler la potion pendant qu’il n’était pas à la maison. Face à Pang Meng, sa femme a décidé de la boire. Elle s’est alors envolée jusqu’à la lune où elle restera pour toujours.
Pour se souvenir de Chang et prier pour elle, Hou Yi et d’autres gens ont commencé à vénérer la lune et à lui donner des offrandes. »
